Prisma Lab — Studio for Generative Art

The work draws itself.

Nothing on this page is an image file. Every piece is an algorithm, running now, seeded like an edition number. Click any work and it becomes another of infinitely many.

Field Notes, No. 7 Flow-field ink drift · Canvas 2D · 2026 SEED 48291 — 1/∞

We do not make pictures. We make procedures — small, exact sets of rules — and then we listen to what they want to become. A seed number is the only decision left to chance. Everything else is authorship.

Room I

Permanent collection

Five procedures, hung as five works. Each canvas below is running its algorithm live. Click a work — or use its reseed control — to pull a new edition from the same procedure.

Meltwater Study IV

Flow-field ink drift
Seeded Canvas 2D · 2025

SEED 17203 — 1/∞

A thousand-odd particles read direction from a fixed noise field and leave ink where they have been. The drawing takes several seconds to settle, then it is done — ink dries. The ultramarine strands are one particle in fourteen.

Concordance

Truchet-tile mosaic
Seeded Canvas 2D · 2024

SEED 60517 — 1/∞

A grid of identical tiles, each holding two quarter-circle arcs in one of two orientations. The maze that appears was designed by no one. Watch: every few seconds a single tile changes its mind.

Signal Fade

Ordered-dither gradient field
Seeded Canvas 2D · 2025

SEED 83946 — 1/∞

A smooth invisible field of interfering waves, printed through an 8×8 Bayer matrix — the halftone logic of a 1984 laser printer. The violet fringe marks where the signal crosses half-strength. It never stops drifting.

Parcelled Light

Recursive subdivision grid
Seeded Canvas 2D · 2023

SEED 29478 — 1/∞

One rectangle, asked repeatedly whether it would like to become two. Most parcels stay empty; a few take gold, ink or ultramarine. Left running, the piece quietly re-divides one parcel at a time.

Hundred Quiet Stars

Particle constellation web
Seeded Canvas 2D · 2024

SEED 51830 — 1/∞

Ninety points drift at the speed of a minute hand. When two pass close enough, a line remembers them briefly. The green stars are anchors: they never move, and every constellation eventually returns to them.

How a commission is made

  1. The sitting

Not a portrait sitting — a conversation. One hour, in person or on a call, about the space the work will live in, what it should never do, and what it should do at 3 a.m. when nobody is watching.

  2. The procedure

We write the algorithm from zero — no templates, no shader packs. You receive three candidate procedures as live sketches within four weeks, each running in your browser with a private link.

  3. The edition

You choose the procedure and lock a seed — or leave it eternally reseeding. We deliver signed source, an archival print of your chosen seed, and a certificate binding the number to your name.

Room III

Commissions

Three bands. All prices include the sitting, three candidate procedures and the certificate of seed. We accept eight commissions a year.

Edition print

€ 900

One seed from an existing procedure in the permanent collection, rendered at archival scale and printed on cotton rag, 60 × 60 cm. Numbered, signed, retired — that seed is never printed again.

Lead time 2 weeks

Living piece

€ 3,500

A bespoke variation of a collection procedure, delivered as a framed always-on display and as signed source code you own outright. Reseeds on a schedule you choose: daily, yearly, or never.

Lead time 6 weeks · most commissioned

New procedure

from € 12,000

An algorithm that has never existed, written for you: private commissions, lobby installations, title sequences, permanent collections. Includes exhibition rights and our maintenance of the work for ten years.
