Where the last one percent of sunlight fades, life learns to make its own. Our four standing programmes work this transitional water — the largest daily migration of animals on Earth passes through it every night.

The fleet

No sunlight reaches here — only what we bring. Our crewed submersible Lucent III carries two researchers and one pilot to 11,000 metres inside a 90 mm titanium sphere. A cross-section:
